J. Hunter produces some of the largest black pearls in world, averaging 11mm.
The nacre thickness of J. Hunter pearls is unique: an average of 1.6mm in thickness. This is twice the thickness of the requisite 0.8mm thickness decreed by the government of the main pearl-exporting Pacific territory, Tahiti. Nacre, also known as mother-of-pearl, is one of the most important aspects of determining a pearl’s quality.
